My orchid had many rotten roots and i just washed the roots and added new moss in between them. I noticed there was something wrong with it when the flowers started falling even though they haven’t dried up yet. I’m going to get more moss to cover up the top a little but is there anything I can do to improve its health? I’m also planning to not water it for a while to let the roots breathe a little.
If you have a lot of dead roots, it’s probably is staying too wet. Personally I don’t like sphagnum as it doesn’t dry out fast enough for my conditions. I grow all my orchids in bark. Since it has dropped its blooms, I would cut the stick back to the base so that the plant can focus its strength on leaf and root production. I recommend repotting you orchid. When you do it you will want to trim away any dead roots while you have it out of the pot. I would also use a ventilated orchid pot. The additional holes will help you phal dry out. They make clear pots which are very helpful, but if you can’t find one you can just add holes to the growers pot with a soldering iron.
