I’m new to orchids. I haven’t had my miniature orchid for long. It used to have many buds and flowers but now it looks like just a stick with pretty, long leaves. If you have any tips or tricks please comment. Thank you!🤗🤗🤗 Edit: I live in Florida. Could it be overheated?
Since the flowers are gone, I would go ahead and cut off the inflorescence. There is a way to get a second flush of blooms but I think your plant needs to rebuild its energy. Phalanopsis can stay in bloom for months. Considering you just got yours, it might just be time for the blooms to fade, or it could be dropping them due to environmental changes, ie moving from the grower to the retailer to you home. I would say as long as the leaves and root look healthy you have nothing to worry about. Health leaves = firm, med green, no wrinkles. Healthy roots = firm, no wrinkles, green when wet, silver when dry. Now is a great time to check your roots. I find that’s where I make all my mistakes. If you haven’t repotted yet then it’s probably in tightly packed sphagnum or badly decomposed bark. Both are bad news for orchid roots. You want a mix that allows air around the roots. A good place to start is 50% orchid bark 50% sphagnum. If you are a heavy waterer like me, you might consider backing off the sphagnum. Just remember, phals love water but they loooove for their roots to dry out more. Also, get your phal into bright indirect light. Direct sun will burn the leaves quickly. The plant will tell you what kind of light it’s getting. Reddish leaves means it’s getting almost too much. Dark green means it’s getting too little.
