Hi everyone! I was super excited to get this orchid but the leave are dropping. Is this normal? Is it going dormant? And I doing something wrong?

Sometimes an orchid will drop leaves after moving into a new environment. It’s pretty stressful going from the prime conditions of a grower into out less than optimal homes. I would check the roots. Make sure they are healthy. The few that I can see look good and try bark looks good too. I wouldn’t worry too much unless it continues to drop leaves.

I said leave but I meant flowers. But if it’s normal after being in a new environment I’ll just keep my eye on it like you said. Thanks!

Gotcha. Don’t worry about the flowers. They can last 3 plus months. But since it’s a new plant, you don’t know how long it’s been in bloom. It could be time for them to fade, or they may drop because of an environment change. The plant looks healthy to me. In fact you can try to encourage a second bloom. Cut it just above the node located below the fork (sorry hope you could follow that because I couldn’t think of a better way to say it). I personally cut the spike back to the base to let the plant rest and gather it’s strength for next year’s bloom.

Ok, there are two black clamps on it. One near the flower and the second near that white sign. Are you talking about cutting it near the flower?

I would cut below the fork.
