I am new to the plant life and have an abundance of new plants due to the unfortunate circumstance of two funerals of my close family members within a couple of weeks. I want to honor my loved ones by keeping every plant I received alive and thriving. The orchid is the one that gives me the most worry probably because of the stigma that orchids are particularly fussy. Will someone just look at this orchid and tell me why the rest of the buds won’t open after being in my home a month. I went a little aggressive and put him outside the past 2 sunny days so hoping I didn’t do any lasting damage. I was just impatient and wanting these buds to to flower. These are his normal conditions and I move him exposure to grow light x couple of hours per day. Also just watered today because of the excessive sun exposure

Yours look good to me. The leaves are firm. Roots are in reasonable shape. Healthy roots are firm and green when wet and silver when dry. The goal with phalaenopsis and other orchids is to provide enough water while letting the roots dry out. The media should not be broken down. Your’s are in bark which I prefer. If it looks like typical soil, that means the media has broken down and the roots will stay too wet. If that’s the case, you’ll want to replace the media. They don’t want direct sun. They can take relatively low light levels and still bloom. Mine do well in a west window that is heavily shaded by landscaping plants. The blooms take a while to develop. They look good so you probably just need to give them time. Spikes can take a month or two to develop and another 2 to 4 weeks for everything to open. If you see any shriveling or they look orangy-brown then they will not make. But bud blast is very common for plants acclimatizing to a new environment. I totally understand the need to keep legacy plants. I have a spider plant that my grandmother grew, and a Pothos from my grandfather’s funeral. Others are the same variety that loved ones loved while on this earth. They are some of my most prized possessions. With that said, please give yourself the grace to learn. Good luck with those lovely plants.

And Miss Orchid Girl is a fantastic YouTube resource. She has a ton of videos about orchid care, including watering and repotting. Sorry for the length of the posts

I water mine for 2 minutes and let the water run through. I make sure that it is done draining before I put it back into the pot. Mine have been doing well for at least 2 years! I even had to repot one and it has bloomed. I use this app to tell me when to water.
