I got this plant a year ago August and it’s just had its second set of blooms!! (It was in bloom when I got it) Should I cut the stalk after the blooms die? Thanks!

    There are several schools of thought on this. Some growers will leave the inflorescence, trimming it back to just below the last bloom. Under the right circumstances, you can get a second flush of flowers. After the second set fades, many opt to cut the inflorescence back to the base of the plant and wait for the plant to form a new inflorescence in the next blooming cycle. Some growers leave the inflorescence the plant without doing anything to it (no pruning). Unspent nodes may activate during the next cycle and so the plant spends less energy in producing a new inflorescence. I like to cut the inflorescence back to the base of the plant. I find secondary blooms can affect the flowing year’s flower number and size. In the end, I don’t think there is a wrong way (unless you are planning on showing your plants in competitions). Try experimenting with the various ways to see what works best for you. And of course there is a caveat - don’t trim the inflorescence of subsequent bloomers. They will continue to produce blooms on the same inflorescence. This trait has been mostly bred out of the hybrids commonly available today. But if your plant is a species or simple hybrid, it might still have that trait. Good luck!
