I’ve never had a Vanda orchid before, but I know with regular orchids if you’re repotting and see dead legs, you can cut them. Is it the same for Vandas? This is right after watering. I got my vanda a little over a year ago and when I got it, nearly all its roots were rotting so I cut them all back. It’s been a long process, but finally the roots are rapidly growing. I leave mine in open air and water by dunking in the sink for like 30 minutes about every 2 days. Are you planning on potting it in an actual pot with bark or something? If you are just leaving it with air roots like mine then I don’t see a problem with leaving the black “pot” because unless there are small holes in it that restrict root growth, which can be a problem, newer roots will grow from higher up, slowly moving away from the pot. Really, the pot is just there now to help hang the plant and the roots are supposed to climb out into the air.

You have a keiki! Very nice little baby up there! I trimmed some of the dead roots from mine a while back and it’s doing fine. I water every one to two days.
2 Me gustaJust be sure to only cut away the roots that are dead. Chances are they won’t be mushy, since that usually comes with too much moisture. If they are dead, they are going to have no substance, really sort of papery.
