Hi! So far so good with my first orchid, she hasn’t given me a flower but I’m hopeful she will once it’s spring again! Ive noticed this growth near the middle of the… stem? I’m not sure what to call it. I’m hopeful it’s a new leaf so if anyone can confirm that would be great! Ive also noticed the bottom leaves have gotten a little yellow around the edges (I assume it’s because they are shaded by the others but I just want to make sure it’s boring I’m doing, picture of roots added since I don’t know if they look heathy or not.

    I also just moved her to this spot and watered her so if it will be too much sun for her I would like to know before it goes bad

    It IS a new leaf, coming out of the crown of the stem. The light should be fine as long as it’s bright indirect light. These phals can burn in bright direct sun. The roots look good… you mentioned you just watered. Just want to mention since you don’t have any drainage/airflow holes in that clear plastic interior pot… you want to wait to water until the roots go from that current bright green to their pretty silvery color. They shouldn’t stay wet all the time. If they are still green, don’t water.

      Thank you, This definitely puts me at ease a little! The plastic pot does have drainage holes and I try to dump any excess water at the bottom of the other pot after watering. Is that okay or should I let it have all the water

      You absolutely want to drain and dump excess water. What I mean is that orchid specific plastic pots tend to have ventilation holes all around the sides of the pots as well as drainage holes in the bottom. Orchid roots are epiphytic, needing air as much as they need water. Kept too soggy, they will rot- and really jeopardize your plant. Just pay attention to the color of the roots and you will know how frequently to water. If they are still green, wait.
