I clipped my orchid stems and put them in water since all the blooms were open, and I noticed these two nodes are sprouting. Any advice on how I might be able to keep it growing? If that’s possible? I’m assuming no, but I put it in a propagation jar anyway and I’m curious if anyone has experienced this with successful growth.
That is a way to propagate orchids. I suppose you'd treat it like any other tropical propagation, but it can be done and yours seems to want to do it

좋아요 1개If you’ve already clipped them, I’m afraid the chances are slim that it will be able to develop enough to grow into a keiki with self sustaining roots. There just isn’t enough energy or nutrients in a flower spike for that kind of growth. With it detached from the mother plant with its leaves, roots, etc, there’s no way to feed it. Of course you can try… nature is a wonder and anything can happen, I’d just limit your expectations.
좋아요 1개Yeah that’s what I was thinking. Someone on Reddit got pretty far but said it died after 4 months because they missed a week of care. I think they said it grew a root or two. We will see!

I have heard of people propagating through inflorescence cutting but have not done it myself so no first hand experience to share. I believe it is most often uses a prop box setup. It also requires carefully monitoring moisture so not to encourage fungus.

I put prop drops in mine and doing well so far. Been 2 months.
좋아요 1개I added some orchid fertilizer and the nodes have grown a bit but I think it’s starting to dry out. The tips of the nodes are starting to turn white.
