Stymied! The plan was to repot this Moth Orchid now that all the blooms have dropped. Then I noticed this bloom spike. So I cut back the die off part of the last spike. If I repot now will the shock kill this spike? Can I still repot?

I am jealous lol. Can’t get my moth orchids to start any type of stem. I am the last person to comment lol. Good luck!!

Did you see my other three? Two years no blooms.

So I pulled it out of the plastic bag pot that it was sold in. It’s all sphagnum moss…soaking wet. I haven’t watered in a month. I plunked it down in a bigger pot hoping to get the moss & roots to dry out. Should I pick out the moss?

Yes. This is probably the same medium it’s been in since it was a seedling in the nursery. So it will definitely need a repot. It’s hard to say whether the shock of a repot will make the secondary flower spike stop developing. However, with the medium still so wet after WEEKS, you are running the risk of losing all the roots on your plant, which is much more dire than losing a flower spike, which will come back every year anyway. If you lose the roots, you may lose the whole plant.

I agree with Jen. Better to sacrifice a spike than the plant. Especially since it’s one that will rebloom for you. 🤞
