Root bound! I acquired this oncidium in late Feb and I haven’t been able to check the roots until today. I was waiting for it to finish blooming and for new growth to start. I unpotted it today and found this root blob! It’s a 4” square root blob. It looks very root bound and I don’t see any old orchid media mixed in the blob. Are these roots ok? They don’t feel mushy or smell weird. I see fresh roots. Should I tease this blob apart? Or repot the whole root ball without disturbing it with new orchid bark. There are new pseudo bulbs growing too. Any advice? TY!

    That looks like some good ramen! And no I wouldn’t bother tearing the root ball apart, just plop it into some new soil with a bigger pot.

    I’ve repotted it into a bigger pot and didn’t disturb the rootball. It really does look like a packet of ramen noodles. lol
