I need help ASAP I have this orchid and it’s barely been hanging on by a thread throughout the years like it’s gotten root rot multiple times and all that stuff. But now I’ve finally repotted it with high-quality orchid soil after disinfecting the plant and covering the chopped off roots with cinnamon in a pot with drainage holes. I have no idea what’s wrong with it now. WATERING: I’ve been watering it only when the top inch is dry and I water with 1:3 water and hydrogen peroxide. It seems to be really dehydrated and I even fully submerged the little roots left in water for 15 minutes and put it back into its pot. The top inch becomes dry before Planta even suggest it and I’m afraid it’ll get root rot again. BUGS: The only bugs affecting it is fungus gnats. LIGHT: it’s 5-7 feet away from a south-facing window and we really haven’t been getting much light here recently. I have a feeling it’s because of the proximity to the south facing window. I’m so confused?? It’s also blooming right now despite its conditions (the leaves keep turning yellow and I keep having to chop ‘em off) I watered this orchid yesterday/before yesterday. I think this is it, it’s going to die and I’ve become soooo attached to it T-T

I’m so sorry, poor Persephone. Number one- don’t treat roots with cinnamon. It’s a drying/ dedicating agent. Cinnamon is generally used to seal cut portions of leaves, stem or new growth that have been infected and you WANT to dry out. You don’t want roots to dry out. Secondly, I CAN’T Believe this plant is flowering under such stressed conditions. I am vacillating between telling you to cut the spike so all the plant’s energy can go into healing and new leaf and root growth and wondering if it’s too late for this plant and you should enjoy the last bloom. To really give it its best chance, you should probably cut the spike. The flowers provide nothing to sustain the plant. Watering: don’t worry about planta’s schedule. Water when the roots are silvery and the media is dry. Even if in your environment, that is every 3 days. But don’t keep it soaked. Water- let dry- water. Whenever this particular plant tells you it’s necessary. Not sure why you are watering with partial peroxide. Once you’ve treated the roots at repotting, it’s not really necessary. Water more frequently if you see the roots are silvery, but I would stop taking it in and out of the bark to soak it. You can soak the entire pot for 15 mins and let drain. That will keep the bark moist longer between waterings, and you won’t keep disturbing and potentially damaging the roots.

I’m very confused about why you are dropping leaves, and the fact that the last one is starting to turn yellow in the center is not a good sign. That, and the fact that the stem looks yellow in one pic is very worrisome.

I’ve been watering with partial hydrogen peroxide to 1. Get rid of root rot if it somehow accidently got it all over again 2. To get rid of all of the fungus gnats because I heard in large swarms when they run out of food they start eating the actual plant

I put cinnamon on its roots when I repotted it but I don’t see or smell anymore cinnamon at the plant so it should be gone, washed away

I really don’t want to cut off the flower 😭 I had to cut off a segment of the flower branch because it was turning yellow. Also something I forgot to tell you is that the smallest flower buds have been turning yellow and falling before they can even grow
