Do I need to be worried about this fungus growing in my crested gecko terrarium? It’s growing under his water bowl, but is it something that could possibly be toxic? I’m hoping it just looks scarier than it is. Gecko (Lance) included for fun.

Looks like a Leucocoprinus birnbaumii, frequently found in greenhouse soils, not dangerous to plants but can be bad for Lance since your terrarium is enclosed and spores are not good in general for animal lungs (well in contained terrariums) they work to break down organic matter in the soil, helps your plants , let your soil dry out a bit it’ll go away, cause it thrives in humidity or remove em soon before they spread more spores

Okay so this might sound kind of far fetched lol, but I’ve heard from snake breeders that copper is anti-microbial. So some people put (thoroughly cleaned with vinegar beforehand) copper pennies in their water dishes. The only thing is, for 95% copper it needs to be dated 1982 or older. So I’m thinking, if you remove the bulk of the yellow mushrooms and put a few copper pennies under the dish, it might help keep them from coming back. I will admit, it’s not a hard science lol but it’s low-risk enough for some people who keep snakes for a living 🤷
3 Mi piace thats true factual & scientific, copper metal has actually been used most of the time for doors & faucet handles because of that (used for interior design factors)
