Bloom number two hit yesterday. There are a few more on deck. A few other pics to show the progress over the last year. Note: seeing the flower helped me narrow down the species - I think. Yes? Please also note that I cannot figure out how to order my pics in the order I wish. Harumph ha.

I got my Lithops a week or so ago and it came wrinkled with some spots that look a bit like edema in very, very dry soil. I’ve tried watering it and it hasn’t plumped up. What do you guys think? Does it look like it might be dividing? I’m very worried about the wrinkling on the sides and the strange white spot on the top and I just can seem to figure out what’s wrong. I checked today and I think it might have some root rot but there also seems to be some healthy-looking, white, lateral roots with good looking root hairs in the mix. Please help! In the meantime I’m going to try repotting it in a bigger pot since the roots seem to be getting too long for the one it came in.

I’ve been interested in lithops but I haven’t owned one yet. My local greenhouse will post pictures online but then by the time I get around to going they’re sold out lol. Must be popular! I’ve seen them really cheap online. Does anyone have advice or recommendations for buying online or not?

My lithops is wrinkly. It came like this and I thought it was thirsty so I watered it and it’s gotten worse. Have I overwatered it?

Are there different kinds of lithops? I love how unique they are and want to get one, but I'm not sure where to start! What kinds, colors, and shapes are your guys favorite?

It’s about that time. All of mine are under three years old so I’m not sure - even with the “right” conditions - flowers are a possibility. Some quick Lithops trivia: They can live to be 40+ years old; they get 20 inches or less of rain per year, and some “rely on mist or fog as their main source of moisture “ (Wisconsin Horticulture); there are at least 37 species and 145+ varieties of Lithops; most of their body is devoted handling and balancing water.

Eight months in the life of this trio.

I would love to know peoples tried and true tricks to knowing when your lithop needs water and or fertilizer. I feel like mine could be doing better if I knew what to look for. Right now I water when they sink into the soil, feel slightly squishy/softer, and the tops are starting to show signs of wrinkling (all 3 must be present before I’ll water). After watering they perk back up, but I feel like maybe they’re being under watered or I could be looking for better signs than that…. I also only bottom water and have yet to fertilize them as everything I read says they don’t really need it….

Ten months with this - my first - group. These aren’t in order, but they are currently thinking about splitting or…flowers? I must have fallen down a series of late-night worm holes to discover Lithops, but all mesembs and mimicry fall into a category of “small things that radically change my opinion of Earth.” Some other examples of those in order of appearance since age two: The Doors, The Beatles, constellations, chameleons, microscopes, telescopes, Depeche Mode, fossils.” From there it becomes more composers and artists, but you get it. Let’s see yours, please.

Hi everyone. I’m going to show you what not to do, but in the interest of…science? More just to show something that contributes to my Lithops/mimicry mesembs. I removed too much of a bottom leaf several months ago. This is the nutrients, and you can see this leaf was still packed with them. But really, just look at it. Can you believe that is a plant? It looks like green sashimi or gummi candy.
