    This rules. I cannot remember the exact Lithops species name, but your green one is exceptionally special - these ALL look great, though; kind of like giving another + to A+. They’re so strange and actually not…(I breathe before I say) not that difficult. One important note around the issue of when to water that I’m thinking people miss is that, whenever you do it, don’t water and leave it in the dark or cold. By the same token, don’t water during a string of cloudy days (if you’re using sun as your light source). I say this based on hearing stories here and watching my neighbors and friends all kill very similar S. African succulents a few notches away in Lithops evolution. “I watered it and went out of town for a week. I think it has nematodes.” Oh? lol

      Nematodes 🤣 thanks so much for the tips, I’m looking forward to my lithops journey! I notice the pebbles are sealed/“frozen” in place, I’m assuming I should crack this pot and free them to replant?

      lol The nematodes idea popped out of my neighbor’s head. I’m sure that is a realistic answer, but it was her fantastic explanation after killing one, and then asking for another, split stone placed in the middle (pleiospilos nelli, pictured is the second one that “died from nematodes.” I even left a small stool and opened the blinds to reinforce “stop blaming nematodes.” Okay. Do you mean the pebbles in my pic or your pot? Is the top layer of yours loose, because it looks like you have yours planted well.

      Ps the pebbles in my pot are pumice. It’s something I started using as a “this makes sense” top layer. There is also a good chance that the soil in here is full of aquarium rocks, beach sand and a bunch of random limestone and shale. I spent a while trying to recreate, like, a harsh but nutritious ecosystem with my imagination ha.

      Omg because of my pride I need to say yeah, the other plants in there are so etoliated and yelling for sun. It just bummed me out, and I told her no more split stones after epically explaining her theory and hard failing after even more “keep it simple” instructions. (She is a quasi-botanist/artist who used to illustrate flora for military training manuals, so I trusted her with advanced plants haha.)
