My lithop started splitting about a month ago. It was going well but now it’s melting. I didn’t water it. This doesn’t seem like the normal splitting process, but this is my first lithop so I could be wrong. Does anyone have any advice or thoughts?
Definitely scroll down in the Lithops feed and read Dave’s posts about his lithops care. When they split, their old layer of skin dies off, so it could be normal that it’s mushy. I think it’s time to let it run its course? Hopefully Dave will pipe in if he thinks different! 😅

좋아요 1개 I wish I had an answer, but that does look mushy. Other than “do not underestimate how little brown soil is required in the pot,” the only tip I have is don’t water on a cloudy day or before cloudy days-in-a-row. But really. Completely unforgiving with Split Stone and Faces, though some other mimicry plants in that area are fine with sitting in a dish of water for a few hours. I asked a guy who runs suc/wildlife tours in Cape Town about that latter part, specifically with regard to the “Ice Plant.” They wrinkle the moment they need water. I letting that go, thinking it is kind of Lithops-like and would eat the split leaf. I was so puzzled until the tour guide confirmed it makes sense because they get some type of coastal humidity etc. Expert level care lol. Legit. That seems to be the only way I’ve noted a Lithops dying. Watering and then not enough light (heat probably factors there).
