Hi All! Newbie here and today I couldnāt resist and brought these beauties home. The lady at the shop says to water them every week and repot in a couple months. They look like theyāre really crowded to me. The pot is 2ā. What do you think I should do?
Do not water every week. That way lies headache. These are crazy little puzzles that require observation and an understanding of their growing cycle. Your plants are in active growth (putting on new leaves) and should not be watered. As the new leaves grow, they will absorb the resources in the old leaves and use to develop the new ones. There have been some good discussions in the forum addressing this. I would also do some research on the growth cycle so that you have a better understanding and of their needs. I love these little plants but find them very challenging. Good luck!

1 gillaCouple things that will help you be successful: - once a week is waaay too much, forget they told you that - as the above poster also said, never water when theyāre splitting/active growth you will most definitely kill them Once they have stopped here are my 3 musts before watering: 1. Slightly squishy when gently squeezed 2. Slightly wrinkled 3. Starting to sink into the soil I donāt water unless all 3 are present. This can be anywhere from 1x a week to 1x/2 months. If you are watering because you feel like itās been forever, but theyāre not giving you the signs, just donāt. Good luck!! Theyāre a super fun challenge:)

I have been watering mine every week, just enough to keep the root hairs from drying out and dying. I did a ton of research and found the lady who brought these plants to the US from Africa back in the 80ās. You can find her lectures online and on YouTube. Her name is Jane ? I have to look up her last name, but Iāll let yāall know when I find it š

0 gillningar I used bonsai jack chunky mix. I think it was last August when I bought mine online and unpotted from a seller on Etsy. I got 10 small ones and 10 large ones and so far theyāre doing great and they are splitting nicely. Theyāre still too small to flower.
