I got my Lithops a week or so ago and it came wrinkled with some spots that look a bit like edema in very, very dry soil. I’ve tried watering it and it hasn’t plumped up. What do you guys think? Does it look like it might be dividing? I’m very worried about the wrinkling on the sides and the strange white spot on the top and I just can seem to figure out what’s wrong. I checked today and I think it might have some root rot but there also seems to be some healthy-looking, white, lateral roots with good looking root hairs in the mix. Please help! In the meantime I’m going to try repotting it in a bigger pot since the roots seem to be getting too long for the one it came in.

    When I got mine I gave it worm castings fertilizer mixed in to its new soil when I repotted and then an organic liquid fertilizer (weakened with distilled water) and they just exploded in some size and plumpness. Everyone is always going on and on about basically waiting until they’re dead to water them, but with the right soil/nutrients/light they’re not going to rot! I actually find them quite easy. I think once you get the nutrients in order the spots with go away and wrinkles will go once it’s hydrated. It’s not splitting, don’t worry.

      How much worm castings would you recommend for a single Lithops in a 3” clay pot? I have ordered some slow release for succulents because of a gentleman on YouTube.

    All I can say is that all looks normal. Here is a pic of healthy Lithops during the Winter lol. Put it in the Planta water reminders, and don’t panic.

      I am curious to know why you both suggest this. I have always gone off the idea that their “window” is all that needs to show; looking at them out in the wild, they seem to perch that way. I have amended top soil a few times to compensate ha. Anyway, I want to hear insider secrets :)

      Ones that are growing in the wild typicly grow in the sandy dessert if Africa so being in the sand wont mater because it is dry a lot of the time but soil retains moisture way more than sand so it can cause it to wrinkle/ rot

      also your lithop most likely wont rot you need to over water to rot it but it will most likely do better higher above the dirt

    Oh. First day I got Lithops, I put them out in a nice filtered sunny area. I had accidentally spilled two drops of water on one, and it sunburned. I lost my mind, and I would continue to lose it until I saw the tiniest one (bottom right in the pic I posted below) suddenly rip its skin open and come alive. You don’t know how many times I almost plucked it out, thinking it was rotting and going to ruin everything else in the pot. This is what they do outdoors.

      I can see why you thought it was dead. I would too! So far mine have been doing well, but I’m very glad that you shared this
