hey!! i wanted to ask what you guys thought of how my lil butts are doing since winter is leaving and spring is coming! my big one split weird only half shriveled and there is a twin in the other half, i’ve been wondering if i should leave it be to do its thing or try to preform mild surgery to get the twin out, she looks stuck to me, other than that i was sent the other big one(s) and they seem to have bruises, i just want to make sure its not scale or anything like that, several plants from that seller arrived with abrasions like that so just been wondering! ty in advance!

    I’m still learning about lithops myself. I will say that I’ve seen plenty of backlash about people forcing plump leaves open in my research. If that’s the consensus I think just let it be for a few weeks and see what happens. Let it take all the nutrients it can from the outer leaf. Then maybe you can gently encourage it with time.

      I didn’t know people are forcing them to open 🤦🏻‍♂️ To “force mine to open,” I put them in more sun, specifically under The Big Light.

    I have so many twins, er plants reproducing. Look at the mess there. A couple of these had surgery in 2022, and I messed them up thinking they were dead. They came back. One has a triangle split. I had a tiny mealie bug issue on this one, as well. Your collection has grown!!

      i was waiting for your input!! and yes my collection has grown lol lithops are so addicting and i had a hunch that this time of year is the best to order and i was right!! i ordered a pack of what was supposed to be 5 live seedlings and then 25 seeds, and to my surprise, they sent me 14 lil butts!!

      Yah! Lithops excitement is pretty high after seeing the new Home Depot style, which is one single monster-sized plant. This is my next venture. “What’s next?” is what my late-night brain asked. Anyway, your collection is 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

      With regard to surgery… I posted how much I love Lithops and then noticed a problem I had been ignoring. Mealie bugs eating Lithops rot.

      tysm!! i’m curious about the growing medium you use, i’m on a budget so i’ve been using a lava rock shale mixture as you can tell, but would you recommend adding any dirt at all? one more thing… how often do you water!? i’ve just been winging it!!

      Oof. Watering has been according to the Planta reminders during summer and fall, but I have also winged it a bit. I spent a good while deliberating whether the “soft top leaf” refers to the current or burgeoning leaf. One pair was soft, not splitting, seemed to maybe have some rot on the old flower, so I just didn’t water for a month. I love lava bits from box stores and the clay balls from IKEA. I’m using the regular yellow bag cactus mix with added pumice and a little sand I found in the back of the pantry.
