I have a hydrangea that I’m trying to learn the proper care for. It has dying blooms that I’m not sure whether or not I should cut them off or let them fall off on their own. Does anyone have any advice for hydrangea plants and for how to get them to bloom again?
Follow the planta watering schedule. I received a potted hydrangea in April and they are really thirsty. I forgot to water it and the blooms dried, I revived it for the blooms to perk up again to eventually die back. The leaves are regrowing now but I read online that florist/gift hydrangeas are forced to bloom and rarely bloom again. It’s been about a month and I have tons of healthy new leaf growth and I attribute that to adhering more closely to the watering and fertilizing schedule.

Definitely trim off the dead blooms so that the plant can focus its energy on healing itself. I have to do that every so often with mine. Also hydrangeas need a lot of morning sun but also A lot of afternoon shade. So make sure it’s not placed somewhere that has full sun or it will wilt. Another thing they need a lot of water but also don’t like to be sitting in water so I would recommend following the apps watering schedule. I planted mine outside because they do tend to get very big once fully matured. However if you go that route make sure to find a spot where the sun rises up onto your place (Eastern facing) but also has a some sort of shade partially over the plant. That way it can get the correct shading. (I’ve attached a picture of how I planted mine. Note that I have a little part of my house that shoots out over my garden bed. That’s enough shading for my hydrangea so that it doesn’t wilt in the middle of the summer.) I hope this helps! ❤️❤️
Yeah I decided to chop off the dead blooms. I put it on the shelf farthest from the light and then had plants to offer even more shade. I water using the schedule (twice a week), and I already see new growth coming in.
