Can anyone help ID this plant. Planta doesn’t know it. TIA đŸŒș

    It’s Curcuma (turmeric). Specifically, it’s Red Turmeric based on the color of the flowers. There are the standard yellow and the hard to find blue varieties, as well. They are easy to grow. They need high humidity, bright indirect light and good draining soil plus tropical heat. The plant does back and goes dormant at the end of the growing season. That’s the time to harvest the rhizomes, dry them and grind to make turmeric powder. Your plant may need watering. Leave’s should stand straight like canna lilies.

      Thank you! When I transplanted it this morning there was a tag buried calling it a Irange Torch Ginger. Make sense?

      No. It doesn’t make sense. Mislabeled. Red torch ginger is in the picture. Leaf stalks can easily get to 10 feet. Flowers look like the Olympic torch.

    Red Ginger is another type of ginger. Flowers grow on top of the leaf stalk compared to the turmeric flower that has its own stalk separate from the leaves. I’ve grown all three plants described above.
