I am looking to purchase water propagating, rooted Thai constellation Monstera plants, how easy is it to transfer these to soil after they have rooted (how well do Monstera plants do transferring from water propagation to soil)

My baby cucumbers have grown so much! I’m going out of town soon and I’m afraid there gonna grow out of the humidity “jar.” I also need to get a bigger pot and a support thingy!

While I do find the Planta light meter useful to get a general idea of a spot, the $5 Lux Light Meter has been my jam due to the foot-candle measurement; if you don’t know what a foot-candle is, then you haven’t spent full weekends each new 2023 season marking up screenshots with times and locations to figure out how to get light requirements without moving a table twice a day for the rest of your life. Also, one doesn’t need to know what a foot-candle is to successfully grow plants haha. This would also not be a problem if I could do math and relate it to an Almanac of the sun’s position each season. I asked a grad student to calculate this, but she just laughed.

Regarding Lithops, here is the way I calmed down on the overthinking. However, I’m only one and a half years since I learned of the existence of Lithops. Mine look healthy, but it could be another 40 years of this. Search “Great Karoo” or even “Lithops in the ground” and you can see how gnarly they can look in their desolate South African fields. You’ll also see how flat they sit; those who survive have 0 need to reach for the sun because it’s blasting all day. You can see I’ve tried to follow the “keep them flat” with mine (especially the five-pack), even occasionally adding a little more top layer. The attached photos (no clue how to attribute those, but they are mostly from a Wisconsin edu excursion) show that rough “quartz field” terrain mentioned in advice on Lithops potting mix. Side note that this area is home to a huge number of the odd Haworthia, Baby Toes and all those with windows/eyes on top of their various heads. It is a spot that is highly irradiated due to whatever makes the sun feel like there is a hole in the ozone; that analogy comes from living in a Caribbean country where one town’s concentrated heat made me feel like the Sun was aware of me and friends, and the sunburn pain and heat fever were the worst I’ve ever endured. The illustration is from Wiki and visually answered, for me, what’s going on under these dudes. Here are the “long roots” etc. After seeing them outside of the indoor beauty standards, you get a better idea of their resilience.

I finally was able to pot one of my Golden Pothos clippings. She had a nice long root and I finally decided it was time to move her to a pot. So excited. I got this cute pot yesterday on a pack of 4. They are adorable.

Help! I’ve done many water propagations before but I feel like they always get root rot instantly. I had only gave this pothos a good soaking once and the long roots that grew in water were all mushy and fell off. The same happened with a silver inch plant prop. I recently decided to finally do a propagation of my pink princess philodendron, which grew good roots in water, but I’m afraid it will do the same thing. This time I made my own soil mix with miracle gro all purpose + added perlite and orchid bark. I’m hoping it grows well from propagating, but any tips are welcome to avoid root rot! Should I use something other than soil to get it acclimated to soil?

Jazy!

Hi all! I’m hoping for some advice as to how to propigate this Green Fat Boy Philodendron! I recently got a Pink Dalmatian that was propagated in water and did lots of research about how to transfer it to soil, and did so successfully (I think, it look good thus far at least). So i want to try and propagate this Fat Boy, but I’m not too sure how. Any advice is much appreciated!! Thank you all, Jazy

Anyone else ever try to grow a pineapple plant from the top of an actual pineapple? I ready that if you pop the top leafy part off and remove some of the leaves to expose the stalk, you can put that in water and it will sprout roots and you can plant it on soil and grow your own pineapple plant. I figured why not try it. Sounds fun and rewarding if it works. I actually have one with two separate top shoots that appear they could each sprout a pineapple. Of course, if it does work, I do realize that I am a long way off from possibly actually growing the pineapple, but still will be fun. I’ll keep you all posted on the progress.

Whats everyones favorite/most successful medium for propagating Hoya’s from stem cuttings? (Krimson Queen specifically) I’ve only ever used water for all my plants and have zero issues with any type I’ve done. Right now I have a Hoya Chelsea that I started a month ago and its started to show the TINIEST roots. Now I know 4 weeks is an average time, I’ve just never had any of my plants take that long to show any signs of life…and I’m impatient LOL Also, grow light? Or window?

At what point does everyone add plants on here that they grew from seeds? I haven’t been adding them while they’re still germinating and sprouting since those require different care but just curious what everyone else does!
