*first timer with a tradescantia* *also beginner level with propagating* So she didn’t look that great when I got her a few weeks ago. Definitely feeling better with a repot and fertilized. But, she lost a lot of leaves in the process but getting new growth. My question is, since the stems are so bare towards the bases, should I just propagate above that and start over? Should I leave her be for now since she’s just freshly recovered? She just looks so skimpy 😅

Need help propagating and repotting ZZ plant! I’m new to the plant life. I inherited a ZZ plant that has been doing well outside in a shady area. I decided I wanted to propagate it for a house plant by dividing it. I also realized that the roots were growing out of the drainage holes of the pot so decided it was time for some maintenance! I am new to repotting - my only previous experience was with a pothos and slowly it died after I repotted, so I’m looking for some help and confidence tips here! I pulled the whole ZZ plant out of the pot and it looked over crowded and root bound (see first photo). Going off of a YouTube video I massaged the roots to separate them and get them detached from the soil. I then divided the plant by trying to separate the rhizomes by just pulling the plant apart. I divided them into 3 plants and planted the mother back in the same pot. I put all 3 pots in the same spot where the original plant was and watered them with a root starter/fertilizer (hopefully that was good?) Here are my questions: -in the process of trying to untangle the roots and get the soil off them, I definitely broke some of the roots. Is this something to be concerned about or do plants generally survive this? -If you are repotting a plant using the same pot, should you trim the roots if they are long? (General question for all plants.) Since I divided this specific plant, should I trim the roots if the new plants separated from the mother are being put in smaller pots? -When I separated the rhizomes, I ended up with a section where there are several rhizomes but only one stem with leaves (see second photo). I planted this in a smaller pot. Will this grow and survive? -In the process of trying to massage the roots and clear the soil after getting the plant out of the pot, I ended up with this solo small rhizome with roots on it but no stems/leaves, is there a way to grow this? Or should I toss it in the compost? (See third photo.) -Is if ever okay to reuse soil, or mixing the old soil with new when repotting if the plant was healthy? (General question for all plants.) Any help is appreciated, I’m totally new to repotting (and as I mentioned was unsuccessful the first time) and also new to trying to propagate plants!
What’s the best way to propagate? I am so scared of cutting it when i got it it only had 3 leaves but it’s growing a new one each week and its reaching wayy to high
Hi all, I recently saw a post where someone found 7 separate plants in their store-bought Monstera which made me check mine. I have 3 plants in mine and I discovered 3 corms too! One with roots. I have placed the corms in pots with the rounded end pointing up, and left the top of the corm slightly exposed (see photo). Is this the best way to try and propagate these corms? Should they be covered in soil? Should I put them next to the window or use a grow light to help them along? I’m clueless. Any advice appreciated. 🆘 Thanks in advance.
If I take the roots off the top node and plant it with the roots on the bottom will it produce a leaf. I was told its a mini monstera
Hello everyone! I am trying to get further into the propogation game. In the past I have had *A LOT* if success propping pothos in glass jars with just tap water. Sometimes I have used rooting hormone to speed up the process but most of the time i just let them do their thing. I want to get in to propogating Hoyas, Philodendron, ZZs, and SOT. I've been watching a lot of planty youtubers and they all have different methods doing things. I guess I'm looking for your idea on how to create a small humidity den, and what the best medium for propping different tropicals is. Thank you for any advice or tips. Especially if they come with a link to a website or a small business I can shop at. I am not going to any big box stores at the moment.
I put this cutting in water less than a week ago! Is she ready to transfer to soil?
Heeeeeelllllpppppp meeee I’ve never been able to successfully propagate my satin pothos! Her vines are getting leggy so im thinking of cutting them back at the start of spring, also because she has lost a few leaves. But the cuttings started to die the 2 times I tried in the past. Yes I cut below the node almost halfway between the other node, I cut at an angle as well. However, I do have limescale/ hard water since im in urban UK. Could that be an issue for this species? I’ve also heard of people using melted wax to seal the cuts of the cutting which I tried out on some others before. Any help is appreciated !
Help I think my seeds have dried out! The top layer was wet from the moisture but the bottom was dry as a bone 😭😭😭 It’s a variety of different seeds (and it’s still early ) but there is no signs of life 😭 should I start digging and check ? But I don’t want to disturb them just in case few are still ok
I decided to propagate my beloved monstera plant, was looking for any advice for a somewhat beginner. Previous cuttings from the same plant are still doing well. Slothough I felt bad for the mother (who I chopped up) so I reported it and have left it in hopes it'll grow again, am I being silly repotting a cut up mother plant or is it possible to grow from this kinda trauma? I also have a cutting from a dumb cane ?? (I'm not too sure on the id there but) I'm hoping that'll grow too as the orginal plant didn't grow too healthily. Any advice is helpful! Thanks x
🥳🥳🥳🥳 Fiiiiiiiinally a successful rooting of my polka dot plant!!! All 3 cuttings have started rooting! 🥳🥳🥳🥳
Does anyone know what this like translucent bubble is coming off of my propagations? 😭It’s only on some of them. I dipped them in rooting hormone before I stuck them in a while ago so maybe that’s it?? Side note: some of my propagations are finally growing roots so thank you to everybody who gave me some tips last time!!
I'm attempting to propagate a few really big sections of a golden pothos to eventually plant outside near the base of a giant silver oak in my front yard. I'm in South Florida and huge golden pothos are everywhere here. Does anyone have any idea how long it will take one this size to start to develop roots while propagating in water? With the smaller ones I've taken from outdoors it seems to be about 3-4 weeks to get solid root growth, so I'm just wondering if it works the same with leaves/nodes this big. Should I add fertilizer or root hormone?
Does anyone have an idea of what type of seed this is? They handed them out to the kids at the renaissance festival.
I am planning to propagate my big monstera. It just popped out a new leaf a few days ago. How long should I wait before chopping it? Thanks!
Took this beauty of a cutting from my friends philodendron as mine sadly returned to compost recently, was feeling a little to impatient to let her callus over so instead put the middle part of the stem into water - there’s also this little sprouting but where I cut that I believe is a new vine/leaf starting out as opposed to a Ariel root so was hoping it would grow but not sure if water can be pulled through a plant both ways (lots of nodes and a few small areal roots under the water level)
Lucky bamboo propagation? My plants tall now and debating getting another one or two from Ikea to add to her but I’m wondering how easily I could prop her..
I feel slightly dumb. I have had 4 pothos bunches in water for years now, with no growth. I even had them in my fish tank for a while to see if that helps. Can they not grow big and beautiful in water? Do I have to move them to soil?
Had a very stringy pothos jade and decided to chop it up and put it in moss. Also decided to chop the top off my rubber tree.
