Trying to propagate some of these succulent leaves. About half have been in here for over a month… the other half I put in within the last week. I haven’t been watering them at all and yesterday I put them out in the hot sun for half the day. That’s when most turned brown… I read that drying them out first can work… Any advice? Are these ok? How do I get more consistent prop success? Thanks!!!

I’ve been propagating a Chinese evergreen in water. Two nodes have started growing roots and easily broken when I went to change water. Any insights? Am I doing something wrong? Are they generally weak roots? I’ve considered grabbing some rooting hormone and finishing the process that way.

I’m thinking about giving one of my fiddle leaf’s the chop and prop treatment. I’ve never done this with a FLF before; would I prop the top cut in water? Water is what I usually put my props in.

I’ve decided only to do water and pearl propagation. Here they are now. (I know it is so dirty) 😥😥

Hi alll! All my plants are baby’s I’ve made from other plants. The one I’m trying to do at the moment I’m a tad confused about and was wondering if anyone had any advice. There’s not much to see but I’ll attach a photo anyway and update if anything changes but it’s a string of hearts propagation I’ve done it with a stem cutting before and worked fine despite a few hiccups now and then but I took something from a different string of plants to try propagate however I’m not sure if what I took was seed pods or root pods the internet isn’t really helping so far… either way I plopped them in shallow soil in hopes something happens.

Hey circle!! I am thinking about doing it… I think I am going to propagate string of pearls!! My string of pearls is so long and I want to have a new baby plant! I am going to do it a few different ways: water, soil, and a singular pearl. I have searched up all of these and found out they are all possible!! I will be posting updates every week about my baby strings. So excited and totally going to do it after work!! If you have any recommendations than feel free to share. 🪴🧋💦🧵 (Also posting this on Cactus and Succulent Circle)

Hi! New to Planta, but thought I would share my favorite new hobby— propagating pothos in my 55 gallon aquarium! I was struggling to keep the nitrate levels down in the tank, and read that growing plants like pothos in the water can help significantly— and it has!!! Took a little scrap wood, drilled some holes, stained/sealed/waterproofed, and now I have my favorite feature in my house! All of these were cuttings from my existing pothos plants that I rooted directly in the tank (the one in the copper glass had a super wonky stem, so I’m rooting her in there to help the stem straighten a bit before putting her in the tank!). The 10 gallon tank also got a little corner pothos. The plants help purify the water and cut down on water changes, plus they give the fish a more interesting environment! 🎉🎉🎉

Hi friends! Quick question: I’ve been water propagating some pothos cuttings for a while now (honestly probably a few months because I haven’t had time to transfer them into soil until now; also this was my first attempt at propagation in general). I’m a little uncertain what I should do because many of them have super long, healthy(-ish?), well-established roots, but some very few, smallish leaves and super short stems/vines. Honestly, some of the few leaves that there are look a little less than peak condition either. The attached picture is a pretty good example of root to leaf ratio. Any advice on how to approach transferring them to soil? Or how to approach reviving them a bit more to give them a better chance? Thanks so much! 🥰

My boyfriend got me a cutting from a big fiddle leaf fig that’s in my neighborhood. I propagated the cutting in water. I kept it in water for about a month and half and like 3 weeks ago I put it in soil and this morning I realized a new leaf coming in! I’m so happy lol

Has anyone used LECA to root cuttings specifically intended to go into soil eventually (as opposed to being grown in LECA indefinitely)? The sources I can find on the Internet about propagating in LECA are pretty thin on details (none of them mention that you need to clean and soak LECA for 24 hours before using, for example). Posts on growing in LECA are much more in-depth, but it’s hard to tell which steps are only needed because you’re in LECA long-term as opposed to just rooting and transplanting. TL; DR: Do I need to use a hydroponic nutrient solution while rooting cuttings in LECA or do I just use plain water?

Propagating nerve plants for the first time (ignore the depressed leaves, it had a hissy fit because I missed a day of watering), does this set up look ok? Obviously they’ll be placed elsewhere, but is there anything else I need to do?

Hi! I had propagated some golden pothos leaves about a month ago, I’ve been changing the water weekly if not every five days, but I don’t see any roots forming? I do occasionally see some brown slimy stuff on the leaves however (same thing on my spider plant, but my spider plant is fully thriving, pic bc I love her) so I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong? I’m totally new to this, so any help is greatly appreciated!

This is Prince (Gynura aurantiaca; purple passion plant). He keeps getting too tall and lanky for my liking. So I am frequently trimming him down. As a result, I get multiple stem cuttings. These are four individual cuttings. I am amazed at their root growth!
