Hey guys! I’m new to planting/flowers! Has anyone ever propagated spearmint before? I have a TON of it planted in a small garden from the prior residents and I want to move it, not throw it out!

I have never done it but I can imagine it would do pretty well. Mint is a nuisance in my garden and it takes over everything so I’d put it in its own pot once all is said and done lol.

Make sure if it’s on grass that you put a slab or something underneath the pot too if it’s shallow, as their roots can spread through the drainage holes too

Yeah I was going to say that propagating isn’t your issue. Good luck removing it!🤣 Mint grows really easy, if you leave any of it behind in the garden, it will probably come back. I would advise you dig a wide chunk of soil up around it and put that in a pot. I had my peppermint in a pot sitting on the ground and it started growing in the yard near by.😄 Just from roots growing into the dirt outside the pot! So I moved the pot onto a table and pulled up the mint in the yard for a couple years until it stopped coming back.

Yes, my dad has taken cuttings of mint and put them in water. They eventually grow roots. I agree with the above statements to keep it in a pot/confined to its space as it does like to spread!
