Does anyone know how to propagate this plant? I’ve left it alone since I got it but it’s too cute not to share

callisia are really easy to propagate, this subfamily of plants (tradescantia and callisia) basically propagate themselves. just grab a pair of clean scissors, snips, or shears, and cut off a portion of stem that has at least two nodes. a node is the lil bump on the stem that has two leaves coming out from it and possibly a few little root nubs. allow the cutting to dry and heal in the air for a half hour or so, then place in water or a water-retentive media like perlite, moss, or coir. this advice applies to most vining plants also

make sure you peel off those two leaves though so the roots can come through, you want 4 leaves or however many you want at the top but you can peel off as many as you’d like on the bottom portion of the stem to get more roots.

Take off the leaves that are under water or soil to prevent rot. Those leaves don’t block the roots. This plant is tenacious and root into everything like crabgrass. Trimming the main plant keeps it bushy and helps prevent balding near the soil.

you could also de-pot and split the root ball with your hands gently, that way your new plant already has a strong root system!
