My baby sun rose has been my best friend and the only plant I’ve been able to grow this well. Although it’s never made flowers, I’m not really sure why that is. It got too big for its pot so I just moved it to a bigger one 2 days ago so he can stretch his legs. I made a few cuts to try to spread my guy out a little bit. The leaves aren’t as glossy and firm as they usually are, I’m sure he’s just in shock. I’m looking for any advice on how to help him thrive again! How often should I water/fertilize if it’s a new home and new soil?

I'm not especially familiar with this plant but, if you take the ends off of the longer branches this should promote side branches from your plant. You could also propagate the piece you cut off into the same pot. It looks like it would propagate easily. I'm not sure I would do this right away as it is still adjusting from being transplanted to a larger pot. Also, it looks like you've moved it into a pop that is actually too large. When you transplant you normally go up only one pot size so your plant could be struggling because it has too much space.

Oh yikes! I had no idea the pot size could be too big, I guess I was shooting for the stars! Do you think if I trimmed and propagated to spread out in the pot it would help? I’m thinking the more individual plants growing, the more roots, making it less spacious? Not sure if this logic is correct…

I think eventually filling up that big pot with cuttings would help fill up the space but I would grow the cuttings in smaller pots until they have a good root system. He might even want to move the other plants back into smaller pots.

That LOOKS like a Hoya? I would put those cuttings in water and bright light (or growing media) and let them get roots before putting them in soil. Guys like to be rootbound so he’s just pouting over the recent disturbance.

They do look similar to a Hoya in terms of the leaves- but the stem size and overall texture is a little different. This is just a non variegated guy but I believe most of the baby sun rose varieties have some color to them. Good idea! I’ll take out my cuttings and put them in some water for a while and see how they do. Would you recommend adding fertilizer to the water? Thanks for the suggestion!

I do… very light (!!) so not to burn fragile things. I also use distilled water and change it every week. Good luck!!!
