Hello! This is my first Prayer Plant and I’m new to propagating. The stem leading to the top part of my plant is browning/thinning. Will this kill the top of the plant? Should I attempt to cut and propagate the top to get her to be fuller and not taller? Any advice is appreciated. I’m a beginner, but am loving learning to care for my plants. Thanks!

Yes it will die and yes you can propagate. Here's my experience with my 15-year-old prayer plant. Every winter the foliage gradually gets yellow brown and ugly. Either a leaf at a time or all at once I end up cutting the plant entirely back to about an inch or two of the soil. It always comes back with beautiful new fresh foliage. I am careful when I cut it back because sometimes there is New growth already coming up at the base and I don't want to cut the new growth off. This usually happens in January or February. Not everybody cuts it back as drastically as I do but it works for me.

Hi KJM and thanks so much for the detailed reply! I’m attempting to propagate it. The rest of the plant looks great so far, but I’ll keep an eye on it the rest of the winter.
