Has anyone had luck propagating a snake plant cutting? If so how should I be taking care of it so I can move the cutting from water to soil without traumatizing the plant?

I almost ruined a handful of snake plant cuttings by sticking them straight in water. The ends turned brown and mushy. Did some reading and found that I should have let them callous over before putting in water. They’re at my cousins house so I haven’t heard how it’s going but I told her to take them out, trim off the mushy parts and let callous over. So I can’t tell u what to do properly, all I can say is from experience I learned they can’t just b cut and put straight in water…

leave the cuttings to dry for about a week, snake plants are succulents and can handle serious drought. it takes about 5-10 days for the wounds to heal and callous over depending on your environment (local humidity is the biggest factor). once they’re dry, i would recommend sticking them in perlite instead of water. you could also root in water and then transition to perlite. roots that are grown in a semi-hydro setup with perlite (or pon or leca, your preference) will be stronger and tougher since they have to work through the porous rock, and will handle the transition to soil much better. be aware that snake plants are slow to propagate, i planted a bunch of cuttings a year ago and just recently most of them have babies that are about 4” tall, the slower ones are still under 2 inches. more light is always better as long as they are slowly acclimated to higher light. snake plants are often touted as low light plants and they may be tolerant of shady conditions, but in the wild they grow in full sun.

They take 5ever to root, so be patient and don’t toss it too soon. Bright direct light can speed up the process
