Hello! So I was recently gifted this beautiful clipping of a Black ZZ, and I have been trying to propagate it for about a month now. I have never tried this for this specific plant, but how long does it normally take to grow roots? Also, was this an improper clipping for it grow?

Zzs take a really long time to root and grow a rhizome. I had a chameleon zz leaf and after three months I gave up 🥲

I think they take a really long time but maybe you could do propogations from some of the leaves too? That way you have more propogations going at the same time and maybe higher success rate? I’m not sure though as I’ve never propagated a zz plant

The online articles show a small number of short roots at 2 months. They also propagate leaves at the time in both water and soil. Try propagating some of the leaves as well to increase the chances for roots.

To put it in scientific terms, ZZ cuttings take approximately Forever to root.

Do you have a pothos plant? I'm propping begonias and I didn't see roots for the first week. Popped a pothos clipping in the glass and had visible roots within 12 hours. They're still growing soooo sloooow but at least I can see roots to give me hope lol

I do have some pothos I can prop. Initially, I had it in the same as the others I had, but the potho props were overdue for potting. I’ll make some new clippings, thanks for the advice

Pothos or Tradescantia clippings in the same jar will help boost rooting of other plants.
