Hello! Looking to repot an orchid and pothos, they’re both in bark so I’m wondering what everyone’s preferred bark is/ successful replanting methods they’ve used for orchids! Thank you!

When I reported my orchid I used spag moss/orchid bark mix bc they were previously in 100% spag moss and to just switch to bark was not good for them. the excellent people on the orchid forum have the best repotting advice, here’s what else they said: soak the roots really well to gently remove old medium, cut off any mushy or papery roots, or anything that’s black/brown. Green/yellow/silver roots are what you want to keep (silver just means they need water) Other than that gently place the roots in the pot and pack the medium around it firmly but not too tight; trick is to be secure but to keep good airflow. Pots with slits are best, drainage a must. For my pothos, they tend to like being snug so if it’s really time to uppot then only go 1-2” bigger and use a chunky well draining mix. Mine love their tropical soil/perlite/orchid bark mix. For those guys I do the lazy way of repotting where I fill the new pot with a little soil so I get the correct height, plop the old pot into the new one, fill soil all around and then take the old pot out and plop my plant in the hole. I don’t squish my roots or anything so not disturb/shock them and so far no one has had any hiccups after repotting. Good luck!! You got this!!!
