I don’t know if I’m in the right group yet but I would like to make my rubber plant grow a new shoot or branch, whatever you call it (my greenness is showing🤫!). There are two main shoots both with several new leaves on them. I would like to force another one or two shoots to come up, but I don’t know how to make my rubber plant do that??? Any help out there?

You can’t force a new shoot but you can notch it. I have one right now I am experimenting with. I had to watch a bunch of YouTube tutorials and read about notching before I felt comfortable. But essentially I took a scalpel and cut a notch out of the main stem above the node where I want a new branch. Yes the plant bleeds but you are forcing it to stop giving all the nutrients to the top and telling it to fix the area you cut. Because it is above the node the plant will push out a new branch to repair itself. The notch has to be deep enough that it can’t scar off before starts putting out the new branch. Honestly I would do some research on it and watch some of the videos out there because their explanation way better than my own! lol but it does work with time!

This is great info! I have been pondering this question for a while as well. It’s been a lingering question bouncing around in the back of my mind (without real action being taken for research, haha), so thank you to everyone involved here for posting about this subject. I needed to stumble into this today to force me into action!

What do you do to get your rubber plant to look so good?! Mine has dropped almost all leaves but the ones at the top over the last few months and it looks pretty sad
