Greetings! After placing a big order and then having some transactional issues from the companies end causing a two week delay to even begin shipping, the very kind owner said I could pick an Amaryllis bulb if my choice. I forgot the name but it’s going to be orange and white. I have only ever planted Caladium bulbs in my past and wow, this Amaryllis bulb is huge and intimidating. I have taken two pics shown below: one of the bulb and one of the instruction sheet that was on the company’s website for download. Everything sounded pretty straight forward, except, under the section about soil it is telling me to fill my pot a little more than half-way full of moistened soil (sounds like usual), then set the bulb so that the “top two thirds are exposed”. The rest of the directions do not ever mention adding more soil to cover the bulb up completely. So, is this accurate: the bulbs top 2/3rds will be exposed for its lifetime as I water and watch it grow? Or did the writer of these instructions forget to include that little, obvious last step that generally says “finish by covering the rest of the exposed bulb(s) with soil and add about another 2” soul above the top of the bulb.”??? PLEASE HELP! Also and quite importantly (I’m obviously a newb), in my pic below, do I have the bulb currently pointed in the correct direction? Or is it upside down and would need to be flipped over to pot it right? Those look to me like clear roots on the bottom side but now I’m second guessing it all. Any other pro tips on growing amaryllis in a pot indoors would be sorely appreciated. Thank you!! Caitlin

ADDITIONAL QUESTION: (please review pic of bulb in original post) Prior to planting, I should trim the ends of the roofs til it’s at a fresh/wet point, right? But what about the top..? Should I trim, if so how much?

Amaryllis are not typically covered. The top portion is left exposed. Whether they are in soil or in water. It's oriented correctly. Just gently push the roots downwards and then into the soil. You don't need to trim the roots, unless something feels squishy. I've gifted them and helped family with them, but I've only had one once. I am allergic to Lillys apparently. Soooo maybe someone else has first hand tips.

Don't trim anything on top, as you could damage the meristem

From the google... Here's an example of a newly planted one.

This is what mine looks like you are not supposed to cover it completely. They’re very easy to grow I water mine about once a week and it gets bright indirect light. And you do have it right side up. Mine is planted in peat moss But that’s what it came in I think you can use regular potting soil.

I don’t know anything at all about amaryllis, but I just saw some at the grocery store, and they’re advertised as a soil-free indoor plant 🤷🏻‍♀️
