Are my snake plant cuttings moldy? Cut and propped about a week ago. And, are those white dots on my banyan Roy cutting, that keep getting larger and had appeared quite fast, roots or some kind of problem? Thanks!

Not sure with the snake plant, but I would be concerned about the Banyan. If you don’t replace the water every day a specific bacteria can start eating at your props like that. You can treat it by soaking the cutting in hydrogen peroxide, then rinsing it off and wiping off as much of the stuff as you can from it, then clean the glass out, let it dry, and give it fresh water every day. You might wanna try again with another container to make it even less likely of coming back. The trick to making sure it doesn’t return is to change the water every day and clean it completely, dry it out, and refill with fresh water at the end of the week, then continue the regular watering for the next few weeks until roots start to form. The other thing to consider is that you might not want the Banyan stem completely submerged in water, just about halfway submerged. Hope this helps!
1 j'aimeI know some folks make propagation containers for stem and node cutting by putting some peat moss in it and misting it every day, if you wanna try propogating it another way without the risk of the bacteria coming back again. Just make sure the moss doesn’t dry up and is misted often to increase humidity for the plants. Those plastic containers for strawberries and blueberries are frequently used for prop boxes
1 j'aimeOh okay. I’ve never seen this with a single one of my props. Is this kind of bacteria specific to banyans? Based on “pro tips” I’ve picked up along the way, I prop with distilled water that has a couple drops of hydrogen peroxide (to prevent mold). I don’t change the water as I heard the water will contain new rooting hormone had is good for the plant and do not dispose. I just top it off with more distilled when necessary. Thanks for the tip about the moss. I did hear that maybe I shouldn’t let the tip touch the bottom. Is that true and if so, why?
1 j'aimeI’ve heard that about the tips too, but I’m not sure why exactly. My best guess would be to give the tip more room to form larger roots 🤷 as for if the bacteria is specific, I don’t believe show. I learned about it from a video a while about, and I think they’re just more common with water props, perhaps with foliage plants, but I don’t think it’s remotely solely specific to the banyan. I’ve never heard that you shouldn’t change the water out 🤔 always that you should change it every day. I’d still suggest switching the water out and cleaning the jar, and perhaps using a new one in the meantime just to be extra safe about preventing it from returning. Best of luck with your Banyan, and your Snake plant.
1 j'aimeI’ve definitely heard about just topping off the water instead of changing it, do to the new rooting hormones the cutting has emitted into the water, many several times. Thanks for letting me know about the bacteria. I thought it was some special looking roots that were multiplying quickly lol! I will try again but with a new branch
1 j'aimeGood luck with them both!
1 j'aimeYou definitely shouldn’t change the water every day because that removes the rooting hormones that the plant releases, but it should be changed once a week
