This is what’s left of one of my devils ivy plants that ascended to glory. I’m trying to propagate the leaves but I see one of them isn’t doing so well already. Is this stem rotting? Should I cut it? It’s placed in the window sill of an east-facing window. I replace the water 2-3 days. Just started this week. Any other suggestions?
The leaves should be attached to a stem/vine with a leaf node. You are propagating the vine so the root nodes below the leaf nodes will put out roots. The leaves are less important. They do help with photosynthesis. Several or all leaves will become sacrificial and fall off during propagation or after planting. The yellowing is likely the vine not providing nutrients because the root system isn’t in place to support the old leaves. Examine the dark stem for rot. Remove all rot and disinfect with hydrogen peroxide. Cut the yellow leaf. Change the water once a week or when it gets cloudy. Changing too often throws out the rooting hormone naturally produced by pothos plants. You can add liquid rooting hormone. I start fertilizing when the roots appear. I add SuperThrive plant vitamins as well. I plant when the roots are greater than 2 inches. 🪴🍀
