Guys! I’m trying to save this thang! Preferably detaching the pup. Could I even regrow the roots by water propagation at all? Or would I have to just shred it and leaf propagate? All and any options would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Not %100 but I think you could let it callous and then water propagate but not certain

You could cut it and plant in soil. It will take a while but just be patient and don’t overwater.

That’s big enough to cut it and replant both in separate pots. I’ve done it with 3 pups off my plant with great success. Like the poster above said, once potted they need to dry out completely between watering. Oh also make sure to sanitize your cutting tool, don’t want to accidentally introduce harmful bacteria!

i would remove any dead or dying roots and plant directly in an airy soil or soilless media after the wounds heal. i wouldn’t recommend rooting it in water unless you’d like your snake plant to live in a hydroponic setup permanently or semi-permanently. water roots are soft and delicate and often struggle to adjust to soil/soilless media. i almost always recommend rooting in a medium like soil or in a semi-hydro setup with leca or coarse perlite since it will produce a stronger, more robust root system from the beginning

Haha I was waiting for a comment from you! Unfortunately, I went ahead and took care of this plant already, but I did do basically that. I separated the pup, didn’t take off all roots nor wait for wounds to heal, but I did just stick it in a mix of all purpose/succulent mix/course cactus and perlite. I haven’t watered it yet though. What do you think?

i’m honored that you were waiting for a comment from me! that’s so sweet. the purpose of leaving a plant in the air is to allow the wounds to heal before watering as saturated soil is a breeding ground for fungus— great for a healthy root system but not so much for open wounds. planting in damp or dry soil also works, as you don’t have to worry much about rot while the wounds heal and the plant re-establishes itself. this method is really helpful for cacti but works well for succulents (like snake plants) too. i would just wait for the soil to be totally bone dry before you water again and continue with a soak/dry cycle as your plant recovers, it should root again and grow new leaves in time
