Hey guys! I am trying to propagate my snake plant. I did cut off one of the leaves and did the v cut in the bottom of the leaf. I put it in water and change it regularly. Yet the leaf is becoming yellow and quite transparent, no sign of roots. What did I do wrong? I would love to try again but I don’t want to cut my plant without knowing what is the matter.

It looks like it is rotting. I’ve never propped a snake plant, so hopefully someone with more experience speaks up!

It looks like it might be kind of squished in that jar. That could be the reason it’s rotting

I have never done them in water but just petting the leaf in soil has worked

Do you also cut in a v shape?

The trick is to let the cut callous over for a day or two before putting it in water. If you put a fresh cut in water it will rot, unfortunately.

With snake plants the process is very slow-going but just trust the process and eventually you’ll get roots and maybe even pups
