Show me the Greens!

Here’s my little Nanouk that has been flourishing. I love it and it’s so beautiful. I was thinking of propagating…? If I were to, I was thinking of cutting at my fingertip. Would you suggest this? Thanks

that’s the perfect spot to cut it. i usually let it callus over for 20-30 minutes before i put it in water. they propagate very easily. you’ll probably see roots within the first few days (:

Just as Molly said, cut between the nodes (or where the leaves are coming from), let it callous if you want and stick it back into the soil. Check out my Nanouk (living room south west) and I accidentally broke a stem when watering one day. I shoved it straight back into the pot (no callousing, no rooting hormone) and he’s thriving in only a few months. Good luck 🤞🏼 (not that you’ll need it)

Manic1 I also LOVE how you have your boards organized!!! So cool

There’s no organisation tbh! I’m a pretty chaotic person so either Planta has had a shuffle around for me or it’s just chronological. No rhyme or reason at all 😁

I propagated my nanouk recently and one of the pieces has lost the pink - still cute though

I would cut even more to get all the remaining vines the same length. This gives you 3 cuttings with at least 2 nodes per cutting. Soil propagation is easy for these plants: - Poke 3 holes in the soil with a chopstick or pencil. - Dip the cut ends in rooting hormone powder - Place the cuttings in the holes. - Remove all leaves that are buried to prevent rot - Water the cuttings. Water the plant as usual. No need to keep the soil extra moist. Roots will grow within 2 weeks. The roots are thread thin. A very gentle tug will tell you if the roots are growing into the soil. The condition of the plant is another indication. Water props: Change the water once a week. Start fertilizing after the roots grow out. Plant when the roots are 2 inches long. Follow steps above for planting. The photo is a plant I started by poking holes in a pot where another plant died and pushing the broken stems into the holes. I started putting broken pieces from other plants or breaking off a piece that’s too long/bare from this plant. Then, replanting. I started this before COVID. It’s self sustaining and lives on dew or rainwater. I water in July and August because it’s too hot on the plants. 🍀🪴

I forgot to add the picture. This gives a full pot with all vines closer in length. I would repot in spring to a size 2 inch in diameter wider. That’s if it needs repotting or you want to get a larger plant with more cuttings. I rarely repot a tradescantia. I do add manure each spring to give it fresh organic matter. I fertilize in the warmer months.
