Help ! 😭 I’ve had string of pearls once, this is my second and I kill them everytime ! Last time I think I over watered and this time I think I underwatered ! 😭 the pot is super shallow I repotted the cuttings so these are cuttings and I don’t think they’re taking 🄲 I clipped what was still good and healthy and repotted, I watered when I repotted and they don’t seem to be taking. I think this plant might be too delicate for me šŸ˜…

I can’t see how deep your pot it but it might be too big. Also, this type of plant likes to be watered from underneath. I killed 2 or three of theses plants before I met this lady with an amazing garden. She taught me to water them in the tray underneath and leave the water for like 10-15 mins. I leave mine in indirect sunlight. I water every 2-3 weeks this way… and I mist them weekly. Good luck friend!

Thank you ! That’s probably the biggest thing I’ve read is they love to be watered from bottom up and don’t like a big pot or too much water. I’ve been gifted both of the ones I had and neither of them came in pots with drainage holes (those cute decorative odd shaped ones. One was an elephant šŸ˜…) so I had planned putting it in a different pot but my second one was just a baby and when I went to water it on its next cycle I noticed they were drying out 😭 not sure if they’re taking at all. The pot they’re in now is more shallow than the one before but a bit rounder

Hello! I almost killed mine too a few months back but fear not! Some tips I found crucial are: - bottom water when bone dry - LOTS of sun (mine is placed by a south west facing window) - place a dome of sorts (plastic cup, plant saucer) They will bounced back :) -

Thanks ! 😊 I tried covering with plastic wrap on top but I got a little nervous when some started mushing out and took it off šŸ˜… should I mist the cup ? Also even tho they are cuttings do I still water bottom up ? I never know how much water to give and get anxious watering since I overwatered last šŸ˜†

Yes, even cuttings! Mine was almost a goner when I decided to cut what’s left that might have a chance! I let the pot (with drainage) sit in warm water until the soil looks darker and damp. Make sure all the excess drain out! These worked for both my dying pearls and bananas. What medium are they in?

Yeah I’m starting to think this one is a goner ! I’m just holding on to what’s left that looks healthy šŸ˜† they’re in a succulent soil mix ! In a (I think) 2 inch terracotta pot

I haven’t done cuttings of it myself yet because my plant is too small. But I wanted to let you know that my starter plant I had bought is about the same size as your cuttings. So what I ended up doing, was putting them in a 4 inch, terracotta saucer, like what goes underneath the pots. It’s in cactus dirt, and does have about a half inch to an inch of roots. I end up watering it about once a day. That’s because there is so little dirt. I just look for the pearls to not be as plump and shiny. Then I squeeze them gently, and if they feel a little spongy, and I know that it’s ready for me to water that shallow dirt again. Because mine is in a saucer, I am obviously not bottom watering. I actually don’t bottom water most of my succulents. I only bottom water my succulents that are potted in a way that it’s hard to get to the dirt from above. To each their own though.😊 I don’t know if this applies to the cuttings, but once it’s rooted, realize that it needs a pot that the roots can reach the bottom of so the dirt doesn’t rot the roots. If the pot is deeper than the roots, then they can’t suck up all the water, so the dirt will stay wet. That’s why I moved mine to that shallow saucer. They came in cactus dirt and a 2 inch pot. I noticed that the dirt was taking 3-4 days to dry up. That’s how I knew they needed a smaller pot. I pulled them out and sure enough 1/2ā€ roots. You want them to be able to suck the water up out of the dirt within a day or so. If the dirt is staying wet longer than that, that’s how you’re gonna get root rot. And then you wait for them to show you they need water, and only water them then. If you do that, they should be able to suck up the water within a day of you watering them. That should help with under watering and over watering.

Yeah my last plant I didn’t have a thought about doing cuttings or even how to do so properly so now that I am trying I’m getting discouraged ! šŸ˜… I try to keep a close eye on them I just fear the over watering the most ! Mine came in a 4ā€ pot and were babies freshly potted, I try to just water when soil looks dry.

This is the day I planted the cutting my sister gave me. I bottom watered, misted, covered with plastic wrap and put under a grow light. Eventually I saw offshoots forming. I uncovered once the baby turtles started touching the plastic. The next pic is about a week ago. šŸ’š

Wow 🤩 I love that for you ! My last string of pearls was way too far gone and was one of my first plants besides my pothos so I didn’t think anything of cutting ! šŸ˜† how long did it take to grow that much ? I’m going to try putting a grow light on it and cover with plastic and fingers crossed this works !

I think she gave the cutting to me in February. Last night I took all the long stems and wrapped them up on top, then pinned a few of the nodes down with piece of paper clips so that the nodes are touching some soil. She is going to be sooo full! Good luck. Make sure to post pics! šŸ¤žšŸ¼

I’m sure this works for pearls too.
