I have been propagating some jade and I originally had these 2 leaves in soil. They started having new growth and the original leaves were getting shriveled but there was no root growth. I moved them to water and there continues to be new growth, the original leaves a plump again, but there’s still basically no root growth! What do I do? Now that the host leaves are full again should I try to move them to soil? It’s probably been 2+ months at this point! The other jade pieces are rooting just fine… the leaves just don’t want to 🤷‍♀️

    Plumping up the leaves may have the opposite effect by letting the new growth continue to rely on the leaf for nutrients instead of growing roots to get moisture and nutrients from the soil. I would put it in soil and leave it alone as long as the new growth looks healthy. It will take awhile for the old leaf to dry out again and the current roots to grow. Don’t expect long roots initially. The roots on my props were thin like hair and about 1/4 inch long for several weeks. The tiny new plant won’t out long thick roots. 🪴🍀

      Thanks. I just go so worried because the original leaves were getting SO depleted! I didn’t want to lose them. But yeah I guess that makes sense. It’s been refilling the leaf instead of seeking out water through root growth

    I have propagated about ten jade plants now. You can simply place these leaves on or a little into some damp potting soil... Give them some like and a little water... And they'll root themselves.

      Given we’re coming into fall and out of growing season, have I missed my window or do you still think they’ll root ok?

    Indoors near a window they should root... I've had cuttings root in winter by my window.

      I also have a few grow lights I can put them near so hopefully that will work- thanks!!
