Hi y’all I’m struggling with my tradescantia and noticed root rot today. I had to cut off most of the plant and don’t know what I did wrong. I changed it to a water only pot with fertilizers cause others were saying they tend to do better. Maybe I wasn’t changing the water often enough. I did have the leaves above the water. But it’s lost all of its roots and I need to propagate it now. Should I wait for it to callous first before I put it back into water? Thanks y’all for your help.

I would wait for it to callous over, and spray hydrogen peroxide on the spots where you cut the rot off. The peroxide will kill any lingering bacteria from the rot remaining on the plant so it doesn’t continue to spread. As for propagating, I personally prefer soil propagation, but water propagation is also fine once the cuttings callous over. If you want to propagate in soil, dipping the ends and nodes in Bonide’s Rooting Hormone Powder will speed up the root development process. Hope this helps.
