I could use some advice on a some snake plant cuttings I’m propagating and I’m worried they are starting to rot out. Do I have anything to worry about? Or if it is rot can I just cut that part off and start again? I know they take a long time to root. Any advice would be appreciated 😊

I tried propagating snake plant in water and 6 weeks later it was just slimy. I have had some luck with just making a clean cut, let it callus over for about 48 hours then dip the end in rooting compound and stick it in potting mix. It’s been right at a month in the soil and I have roots growing out of the drain holes in the pot it is in.

Make sure you let the cuts callus over for at least 2 days, this is really important for snake plants. You may also want to cut them into smaller pieces so it’s focusing more of its energy on making roots rather than using energy to sustain a big leaf. Add a splash of hydrogen peroxide to the water (I usually do about a tablespoon for 2 cups of water) to stimulate root growth and help avoid rot. I’ve found that making the “V” cut helped, and it gives the roots and pups space to grow. It took my cuttings 10 weeks to finally produce pups so definitely don’t give up!

yes you can cut it. let it callus if you think it is rotting. just soak in peroxide. be patient as these take longer than normal props to root
