My propagation journey is going fine so far, I’ve planted several in soil that are thriving. But I have 2 questions: 1. This fuzzy stuff around the roots is definitely mold right? It keeps happening and it’s surprisingly hard to get off, I have to really scrape at it but eventually can get it off. 2. What do y’all mean when you say wait 2 days for it to callous? I’ve been cutting the ends, dipping in rooting powder, and then putting in water like 15 min later. Am I supposed to be waiting a few days for the rooting powder to fully dry first? Won’t the props die? Thanks! =)

    1. The fuzzy stuff are root hairs not mold, don’t scrape it off! They are perfectly normal for roots formed in water. Increases the surface area and allows the roots to absorb as much water as possible. 2. Letting a cutting callous over is a way to protect it against rotting in the water. How long you allow a cutting to callous depends on what kind of plant it is. Sometimes a few hours is enough, sometimes a day is needed. If you aren’t having any issues with props rotting in water with your current method, I don’t think you need to worry about it! Maybe the rooting powder helps? I’ve never used it so not sure.

    1. Not mold, part of root 2. You really only need to let the leaf callous with succulents, other plants you can go strait to water

I’ve used rooting hormone for years and it works quite well. Dip the end of the cutting into the powder tap the excess off and put your cutting right into your pot of potting soil mixture. Just let it be and in a few days check the soil to see if it needs any water. Easy gardening and a new plant too. Happy gardening 👍🏼
