I’m so new to plants. It’s so fun! But I broke a leaf off my Thai Constellation vacuuming yesterday and I’m heartbroken. Where should I cut this so I can propogate a new plant? Please screenshot and draw where to cut, I don’t want to hurt it anymore.

I’m not seeing a good node to prop here. There is definitely no node on the leaf that broke

This is the node on my thai con for reference. You can see where the aerial root has begun to form/shoot out. This is even too close to cut cause usually you want at least an inch or two of stem after the node before you cut, but this is what it looks like in case you didn’t know.

Totally understandable! I’ve been there lol. I’m now 3-4 years into my plant journey, but it took a while for me to figure everything out 😂 This is my regular monstera deliciosa, but you can see that this branch has 4 good nodes on it (it has another right below as well), but since a lot of them are still pretty close together I personally wouldn’t make more than 2 cuttings out of this with the bottom 2 nodes. So the top cut would have a total of 4 nodes, and the other would have just the one. Both would probably grow fine. You could do cuttings in between the closer nodes, but I usually don’t cause I like to have some extra space on the cutting’s stem that way if any rots during the propagation process it won’t affect the node. Hope this helps!

I’d like to give you some encouragement :) No worries on the broken leaf! Had happened to me many a times. Honestly just part of the process if being a plant owner lol. As the poster KK103 shared above, it does not look like from the stem was severed that you will be able to propagate the leaf. But trust me, over time the plant will really come into its own and grow nice and big and you won’t even notice it! I’ll show you a picture of mine but I’ve actually intentionally removed some of its bottom leaves and you don’t even notice it anymore. Also one last thing, be wary of how much you water your monstera. They do like to ‘dry out’ a bit between watering. I just say that because the potting soil you have there looks a bit dense and not more chunky like what is usually recommended. To keep this post from running too long comment if you have any other questions. Best of luck 🙂

Of course! So yes, I’d recommend maybe wait a month or so before repotting the thai con. I’d say do the same pot but make the soil that you put in 30% potting soil (ie miracle gro indoor potting mix) 30% orchard bark and/or orchid potting mix (you’ll want be sure you see wood chips in it like my plant pictured) and 30/40% perlite (Google it lol best way to get an idea of what that is) combine these all and you have a perfect potting mix for a monstera. The reason they need this mix is so air can get down to their roots and they don’t sit in water too long. So that is why I recommend wit the current mix you’re using to water your plant well when it is time to water and then letting it dry out to where maybe like the very bottom half of the pot still has wet soil in it.

Thank you so much!! I just ordered perlite and orchid potting mix on Amazon and it will be here tomorrow!! I’m looking for an albo monstera on marketplace and I needed to learn this because I would die if lost an albo leaf! I appreciate you so much! Thanks David!
