Is this normal when growing a pineapple top ? I’ve done 3 & they all do this so was wondering if this is just part of the process .

Normally, when a pineapple is harvested the parent plant begins to die and it produces pups to regenerate itself. In theory, when you root the top of a pineapple the center should begin to produce new growth. Sometimes the bottom leaves will Brown but the central portion grows and eventually produces a new pineapple. What I don't know is what the success rate is using this method. I have never tried it but it sounds like fun if it works well. Did you root the top in water before you planted it in soil? Or did you just planted directly into the soil. I do not know which technique might be more successful.
1 LikeI started one a few weeks ago and I rooted it in water before putting it in soil.
1 LikeI tried in water the first 2 times & it still looked like this . I guess I’ll keep an eye on the center for growth . I didn’t root this one in water just decided to drop it in soil this time .
0 LikesI tried this a long time ago & it worked but can’t remember how I did it .
0 LikesAre you asking if the outer leaf browning is normal? You didn’t clearly state the concern. So, I’m guessing the concern is the outer leaves drying out and not something else like slow growth. KMJ’s comment covers the leaf drying issue. Also, did your first two attempts successfully produce a new plant?🪴🍀
0 LikesYes it’s about the leaves & no the first 2 didn’t work .
0 LikesI re.oved all but the center 5 leaves. Then I placed it into a cup of water filling up to the bottom of the remaining leaves. Left it there for weeks and refilled water as needed. Eventually I noticed new growth and roots and put into soil.
0 LikesYeah I had done that as well still the leaves starting looking like this . Maybe just part of the process & I just didn’t wait it out .
