Good Morning, I had a question concerning propagating my African Violet - what did I do wrong? I put this leaf in here months ago but there aren’t any additional leaves coming up - the leaf just keeps getting bigger. Do I need to trim the bottom of the leaf and cover that with dirt? I’ve done this correctly before. Now when I do it, they die except for this last time. TIA

Did the leaf have a node at the end? I don’t think it can re-root without one.

African violets don’t have nodes. Any time I have propagated from a leaf it’s taken at least 3-4 months before it does anything at all, if the leaf isn’t dying then your probably fine and it’s just working in rooting and growing to support a new sprout, just have to wait it out.

Would I still need to keep the plant covered in plastic at this point?

Not sure, I don’t cover my props though.

You usually need more than one leaf to properly propagate with a node

    Success @ ~ 3mths.
