Hello! This is my first time buying a cutting vs a rooted plant so I'm struggling to know if I'm doing anything right. I got this a few weeks ago. The seller cut this while I was there (after I admired the plant) and advised me to plant it directly into soil. She did say I could water prop if I wanted but that she would personally just pot it. So I put it in a mix of potting soil and perlite. It was in an old to go cup as I didn't have any small pots at the time, but I did cut drainage holes on the bottom. I posted some pics of it planted to see if it looked ok and someone said it looked fine. I kept the soil moist but not soggy (at least I think I did). But I noticed the topmost aerial root had kind of died off so I uncovered a bit of the next root down and the bottom half was mushy. So I pulled it out, which maybe I shouldn't have done, but I was concerned it was rotting. One of the longer roots was totally mushy on the bottom so I trimmed that portion off. One of the roots seems a little mushy in the middle but the bottom seemed ok so I left it. And the last root seems firm enough. The cut end of the stem was yellow, so I cut that off as well. Now I have it sitting in a glass like shown in the pictures, with just the end of the longer roots in the water (if I try to put the shorter root in the water, I can't keep the cut stem out of the water and I wasn't sure if that was a problem). I really want to do this right. Am I just overreacting and I should repot it in soil again? Should I continue keeping it in water until it grows more roots? What can I do to increase my chances of success here?
