New plant propagator here — I got this philodendron (?) cutting from an earth day event and stuck it in some water. I'm not sure when to transfer to soil, and not sure why parts of the root are much darker than the new part at the end. Any tips appreciated!!

if the darker part isnt soggy/soft (root rot) looks like the plant may have had an a long aerial root that the new roots are growing out of! the cutting will only grow out of a node (which looks like the only one is right next to the leaf, other end looks like it might have been chopped)… I’d either take the leaf off and plant it + hope that the node will grow, or plant it very shallow with the leaf still attached. I’ve had success with the latter, but it’s just not well situated in the soil.

Hi! I would put it back in water and let it grow some more roots before planting ;3

if the root is soft and squishy it's root rot, if it's stiff and hold firm, it's probably an arieal root

Looks like it could be a scindapsus? I would wait for more root development before adding to soil, if it is a scindapsus then I’ve heard they take some time to root
