Hello everyone and happy Monday! I have been wanting to begin growing some sort of wildflowers for this coming summer, I live in Oregon. Has anyone grown flowers successfully? If so how did you go about doing so? I have over 100 houseplants and I’ve mastered the indoor plants but I want to get into growing wildflowers and other things outside. I was thinking of starting them in a prop box with some soil and plenty of light but I wasn’t sure if this would be successful way of growing them. Any ideas and advice would be great! 🌼

I find direct sow wildflowers best for me! I tried inside starting seeds last year and had terrible luck once the transplant outside happened

Have you grown any plants in a greenhouse before? Lots of my garden got too much exposure to sunlight last summer so I was thinking of growing them in a green house.

I haven’t but that would probably work better! I decided that this year I’m just throwing seeds outside and only the strongest will survive

I sow outside, when the WA weather decides it's actually, really, infact spring 😆. I tried starting inside a few years back and everything wilted from the transition.

Have you tried growing tons of seeds in a single pot so you don’t have to transfer or transplant them? Thinking of doing them in larger grow pots in a greenhouse this summer.

Everything for me right now is in pots, i just have an apartment stoop right now. I take like five 12" pots and sow a butterfly/bee mix in one or two, and then some single types in the others. But I seed them pretty heavily.

The issue i had with the wilting, was the sun and dryness. I hadn't transplanted them at all. Just moved the trays outside. In hindsight I should have done a few hours outside each day for a few days and increased the time. But I just put them out in a shady spot.

I grew them in Michigan. Find native varieties at local nurseries or online. You can check the agriculture extension service’s website. Native seeds have a higher chance of adjusting to the climate. We toss them outside and lightly cover with soil per the instructions on the packets.

Oregon is rough because spring is so short! I moved up here from California and have had to adjust my planting schedule drastically. Something that has worked for my flower sprouts is a simple garden bed without a base. Picture a square wooden frame made of 2x4s. The 2-3 inches of loose dirt allows the seedlings enough growth to then penetrate the rougher soil beneath. If you're curious and my description doesn't make sense, I can take a pic of my calendula sprouts. They just came up about 10 days ago, and have so far survived the morning frosts!
