Hey babies! Does anybody have any tips on pothos propagation? I’ve been propping in water for 4 weeks now and I have no signs of root growth. Update: thank yall for all of your advice! I have tried a few different prop options & now we shall wait 🥲 Update again! We have roots! Baby on the left was propped in water and baby on the right was propped in bag with paper towel and some water stuck to my window!

ah okay, usually if you let it callous over a day or two you shouldn’t need glue but if it works it works, i tend to try to stay away from propagating in water and instead use perlite or moss. i’m not saying water is a bad choice it just boils down to personal preference! it honestly just can be the node taking a while to push out new roots, honestly if it is not browning and turning mushy then definitely keep on waiting. it is also important to have it receiving light from either grow lights or the sun. also important to change the water or topping it off. many people say different things, some say to completely change the water and others say to top off the water. the argument here is that if you pour out the water you’ll lose all that beneficial rooting hormone and start all over, while topping the water up doesn’t completely remove the hormone (believe what you want to believe). you can also purchase rooting hormone to help (it’s helped with my propagations). in the end patience is the key to having successful propagations🙏

Thank you so much! I have it in my windowsill in my bathroom, it gets light all day long until the sun goes down lol. The node is looking good, not mushy at all. I was getting kind of worried because I’ve seen other peoples props sprout roots in a couple weeks and I was nervous I was doing something wrong. I’ll keep it until anything changes, I’ll keep you updated!

I propagate pothos in water all the time but never put glue on them(first time I’ve heard this). They do take time to propagate, just wait it will happen.

Thank you! I know patience is. Virtue but I hate it lol

I’ve only propagated three cuttings and rest assured, they took a loooong time. I’m new so it probably would have been quicker if I was more experienced. I cut them in November, waited for the roots to establish, potted in soil…and they finally started growing new leaves only a few weeks ago. It’s so fun to watch the process though! I did just take some cuttings from my MIL’s and am trying the wet paper towel in a ziplock bag method. One root started growing almost immediately, I was stunned. The rest haven’t really changed and it’s been about three weeks. We’ll see how it pans out haha! Hope you get to see some roots soon!

That actually a great idea! I remember doing that with beans as a kid in school! I may have to try it as well! I’m new too so I’m just a nervous Nelly, and want to make sure I’m doing things right!

sometimes propagations take forever. not the same plant but quite similar, i once left a micans philodendron cutting in the prop station for like two months before that thing sprouted. unreal 😂 just keep checking them so you know they won’t rot :)

Show a picture of the setup. It will be easier to see what’s happening.

My first batch of pothos I kept on water for like, maybe a week. Saw the earliest signs of growth and dipped them in rooting hormone and planted in small pots with cactus soil. I noticed growth on some within a few weeks. Been a couple months and all have new signs of growth now! Recently my partner pruned back his pothos he’s had for a couple years. I snagged some cuttings and have been surprised how fast they’ve rooted in water.

Hi! I am a total amateur and I know I am not doing things right, BUT— I have had a lot of success with my cuttings (unintentional tragic mishaps) that I’ve just had living for 2+ years in water! Some issues I have encountered that maybe will help to avoid — I tried doing the fertilizer and messed up the ratio and some of the roots/leaves died, I had algae grow because I was busy and didn’t change the water for soooo long, and I had my leaves were burning after I kept them in what was a “sunny” spot but I realized was directly baking my babies! So now I just have them in water that I change frequently, in indirect sunlight, occasional root pruning and didn’t do anything regarding nodes/fertilizer!
