When I looked up how to propagate this guy it said to cut and put in water but it’s looking a little weird…is this normal? Should I keep waiting or transfer to soil? It’s been about a week and the water was completely new when I put them in this jar. They went in at the same time but the middle cutting seems to be collecting way more water.

    Do those darker areas feel soft and squishy to the touch? Both are signs of rot. Did the cuttings have a chance to callous over before going into water? It always sounds so easy … cut and prop in water but most plants need at minimum a few hours to callous over (ie dry) before going into water. Otherwise you run the risk of developing rot.

    Yes that’s what I was worried about. They dried for one day. Can I save them?

    The one that is very mushy I’d say no but the less mushy one I’d say yes. Cut a new end to remove rot and callous over for a few days before putting back in water. Use fresh water in cleaned vessel

      New to propping. What’s the general rule of how long to callus after cutting before putting in water?

      Not sure there’s a rule. I generally go by the plant and how long it can survive without water. Cactus and succulents can go a while between watering so I let them callous longer

    Make sure the growing end is pointing out of the water. The middle sections look like they are upside down in the water. It’s a little hard to tell. Use just enough water to cover the cut end. Change the water each week.
